Top seed Dominic Thiem saw off Fernando Verdasco 3-6 6-3 6-2 to progress to a third quarter-final at his home event in Vienna on Thursday. Thiem beat Verdasco for the first time in his career after four previous losses to seal an 11th quarter-final appearance of the season and 49th since 2016, which ranks as the best on the circuit. The Austrian next faces Pablo Carreno Busta with a possible semi-final match-up against 22nd ranked Andrey Rublev in the offering after the Russian youngster ousted South Korea's Hyeon Chung 6-4 6-2. Meanwhile fourth seeded Gael Monfils saved two set points in a tight second set tiebreak before defeating Jannik Sinner, 6-3 7-6. In other action, Argentina's Diego Schwartzman tamed Sam Querrey's powerful serve as he clinched a 6-7 6-4 7-6 victory.
