In the morning of February 17, the KNPP, KNDF groups and PDF-designated terrorist insurgents mined and destroyed the Thanlwin Bridge (Hpasawng ) near Hpasawng Town, Mese Township, Kayah State.
The incident occurred around 7:20 AM on February 17, 2026, when the KNPP, KNDF groups and PDF-designated terrorist insurgents, in order to prevent the Tatmadaw columns that had recaptured and were controlling Hpasawng Town from continuing necessary area security operations and from pursuing and eliminating them, mined and destroyed the Thanlwin Bridge (Hpasawng).
This bridge, located approximately 320 meters west of Hpasawng Town, Mese Township, Kayah State, on the Hpasawng-Mese-BP(13) motor road between mile posts 0/3 and 0/4, is a public infrastructure bridge of reinforced concrete type, measuring 1260 feet in length and 24 feet in width.
The destruction caused the westward abutment and approximately 250 feet of the bridge deck, 24 feet wide, to collapse. No casualties have been reported. While claiming to be working for regional development, the terrorists, in reality, are solely focused on their own selfish interests.
Their barbaric act of destroying the Thanlwin Bridge (Hpasawng), which is not a military target but a crucial public infrastructure for local transportation and goods flow, has severely damaged the socio-economic well-being of the local population.
Due to this mine destruction, the bridge is currently impassable for people and vehicles. Relevant officials and staff from the Bridge Department are working to repair the damage as quickly as possible. Furthermore, security forces are increasing security operations to ensure regional stability and peace, it’s reported.
