






A technical discussion on the production and marketing of value-added Elephant Foot Yam products, including Yam vermicelli and Yam starch, derived from raw Elephant Foot Yam cultivation, was held on March 18th at the meeting hall of Ministry of Industry.
Union Minister Dr. Charlie Than attended virtually and delivered an opening address, stating that Myanmar possesses abundant natural resources and a strong agricultural foundation, offering numerous opportunities to enhance economic development through agricultural products. He noted that if Elephant Foot Yam is systematically cultivated, it can meet domestic consumption needs and has strong export potential to neighboring countries.
Therefore, the Head of State has provided guidance to ensure that farmers receive sufficient Elephant Foot Yam varieties and necessary technical assistance. The Minister expressed hope that the experts and entrepreneurs attending the discussion would actively share their practical experiences, research findings, and recommendations, leading to valuable insights and positive outcomes.
Following the address, responsible officials presented information regarding Elephant Foot Yam production and marketing. Attendees asked questions and received detailed responses from officials. The Deputy Minister for Industry delivered the concluding remarks, after which the event concluded.
In the afternoon, a technical discussion on Mongkai paper (Shan paper) production technology was held, with Union Minister for Industry Dr. Charlie Than attending virtually and delivering an opening speech. During this session, officials and a representative from the umbrella and Mongkai paper industry in Pindaya Township, Danu Self-Administered Zone, discussed various topics including: consumer goods and handicraft production using Mongkai paper (Shan paper), matters related to the extraction and utilization of the raw material Thalae tree (Shaw tree) for Mongkai paper production, comparisons between traditional Mongkai paper (Shan paper) manufacturing and regular paper production, and natural dye decoration techniques on handicraft items made from Mongkai paper (Shan paper). Attendees asked questions and received clarifications from officials, after which the Deputy Minister delivered the concluding remarks and the event concluded, it’s reported.
