A workshop on strengthening Destination Management Organizations (DMOs) for sustainable tourism development was held in Nay Pyi Taw on Thursday.

The workshop was organized by the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism with support from the ASEAN-Japan Centre. Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs and Hotels and Tourism Jeng Phang Naw Taung attended the workshop and made a speech. In his speech, the Union Minister said the workshop aims to promote systematic and sustainable tourism development, improve management of tourist destinations, and share international best practices.

He noted that more than 200 DMOs have been formed across different levels nationwide to help develop existing and potential tourist sites. He urged DMO members to ensure visitor safety, provide quality services, promote new attractions, and follow national tourism guidelines, adding that strong and effective DMOs are key to long-term tourism growth.

Myanmar’s Ambassador to Japan, U Kyaw Tun, also discussed cooperation with the ASEAN-Japan Centre and future plans for tourism development. The two-day workshop, held from February 19 to 20, includes expert discussions, group work, and experience sharing sessions.
