Three devastating explosions left 11 dead and 45 injured in Afghanistan's capital of Kabul on Thursday, with extensive damage to local business as well. Khan Afzal, a stone material businessman, said his three-story shop was seriously damaged during the explosions. According to him, the unstable situation in Afghanistan in recent years has badly affected his business and additionally he is faced with severe restoration costs whenever his building is damaged.
He said he was lucky enough that he was not in the shop when the three blasts happened; however, his employees were not so fortunate. The Taliban claimed responsibility for only one of the blasts, saying the militant group targeted the U.S.-led foreign forces stationed in Afghanistan. The U.N. Assistance Mission in Afghanistan documented more than 3,800 civilian deaths in the country last year. Nearly 11,000 in total were either injured or killed throughout the year, according to the document.
