The Engineering Division (Water and Sanitation) under the Nay Pyi Taw Development Committee operates the Wastewater Treatment Plants in Nay Pyi Taw Zabuthiri Township.
The facility has a capacity of 1,600 m³ per day, treating wastewater from 110 staff housings in Mingala Theikdi Ward and nearby areas. Using an aerobic system, the treated wastewater is chlorinated and stored in a 1.3-acre earthen lake. The sediments remaining from the plant are also used as fertilizer for landscaping purposes.
On May 2, Member of the Nay Pyi Taw Council Vice Chairman of the Nay Pyi Taw Development Affairs Committee Vice Mayor U Win Moe Khaing, visited the facility and instructed officials to implement a systematic operation process. He urged them to draft a Master Plan for expanding operations to cover the entire city.
The Vice Mayor later visited the Water Purification Plant No. 1 in the same township which can extract 7.5 million gallons of water per day from three sand filter tanks. Despite damage to the pipe from Chaung Ma Gyi Dam, sufficient water extraction is ensured with the new HDPE replacement pipe.
The treated water is distributed to the Ministries’ offices, the 1,000-bed People’s Hospital, Gantgaw Ward, Myo Ma Market, Padauk, Khayay and Sabai housing areas, and Hotel Zone 1. In order to reduce electricity consumption, solar panels were installed in the on-grid system.
