The Lebanese navy and a submarine crew on Friday announced that they had found the remains of at least ten of the approximately 30 drowned migrants in a sunken ship off the coast of Tripoli.

In late April, a boat carrying about 80 Lebanese, Syrians, and Palestinians trying to migrate by sea to Italy sank following a confrontation with the Lebanese navy.

A total of 47 survived, while seven drowned bodies, including that of a young girl, were retrieved that night. Some 30 bodies have been missing since, with some of the survivors saying they were trapped inside the boat.

Survivors say their vessel was rammed by the Lebanese navy, while the military claims the migrants’ boat collided with a navy vessel while trying to get away.

Since Monday, the Lebanese navy and a crew operating a small submarine have been trying to find the sunken boat.
