Study tour: MOI Union Minister visits villages in Bali, Indonesia

A Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn who is in Bali, Indonesia for the 18th Asia Media Summit together with ministers from information sector of AIBD member countries and delegates visited Penglipuran village, Bamboo Forest and Kintamani village in Kubu of  Bangli Regency province in Bali island, Indonesia on Thursday morning.

On arrival at Penglipuran village, the Union Minister and study tour members were welcomed by the village administrative officials and they were conducted around there.

The Union Minister cordially greeted the locals and presented commemorative gifts to the village administrator and villagers. There are 1,280 population of 78 houses in Penglipuran village and it is one of the most tourist attraction villages in the world due to the preservation of the traditional customs of the people of Bali.

The house and buildings in the village are built with Bali island traditional style and the villagers are living in line with the traditional culture. The village includes the three cleanest villages in the world and due to its cleaning and tidiness, the village won many awards including the Indonesia Sustainable Tourism Award in 2017.

The Union Minister and study tour group then observed HutanBambu Forest near Penglipuran village. The Indonesian government has set the plans and funds since 1995 to preserve the HutanBambu Forest as naturally. The village community is carrying out the bamboo forest preservation tasks with the government assistance.

Later, the study tour group visited BAS De ATAYANA (I Love BAS Agrotourism) coffee farm in Kintamani Village in the island and observed coffee production process from civets' feces. This private coffee farm is about 10-acre and it operates with about 20Civet Cats/ Kopi Luwaks. There are many similar coffee plantations in Bali, totaling about 900 acres.

This type of coffee is among the best coffees in the world.In 2021-22, Indonesia earned about 126 million USD from the coffee export. Indonesia, which is the fourth most populous country in the world, is striving to become a developed country by 2045. Bali, which is home to more than 4.5 million people, is making efforts to revive tourism industry like the situation before COVID-19.
