A dangerous winter storm whipped the U.S. East Coast with significant snowfall, strong thunderstorms and blustery winds. Meteorologists said a foot (0.30 meters) or more of snow fell in parts of New York state, Ohio and Pennsylvania through Monday.

New York City was spared most of the snowfall. People in downtown Cleveland needed shovels to dig cars out of the snow.  Vehicles were also seen struggling to drive in the snow in Pittsburgh. Power outages affected tens of thousands of customers, and hundreds of flights were canceled.
