State/Region Chess Tournament: 145 chess players from regions and states participate

2022 State/Region Chess Tournament was opened at the National Indoor Stadium-1 (Thuwunna) in Thingyankyun Township, Yangon Region on Monday.

At the event, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein gave an opening speech and said that the chess is a sport that has a good tradition of achievement in Southeast Asian Games and International Games.

The state and region chess tournaments that have been held now have produced the new generation chess players who are helpful for the emergence of international level athletes.

The Chief Minister called for the athletes to compete in the tournament with their best ability to strengthen the Myanmar national team and to emerge the new generation of qualified chess players.

Next, the participating athletes recited 4 oaths of sports. The Yangon Region Chief Minister, the Region Cabinet Members, officials from the Sports and Physical Education Department and the Chairman of Myanmar Chess Federation and officials cordially greeted coaches/instructors and competing athletes.

The Region Chief Minister opened the tournament and observed the 1st day events. A total of 145 athletes from 14 men teams and 13 women teams in Regions and States will compete in the tournament that will be held until 12th September at the National Indoor Stadium (1) Thuwunna and anybody can enjoy the event with free of charge.
