The historic Gokteik Viaduct, a 125-year-old railway bridge, is a landmark in Myanmar, recognized as the country's highest and the world's second-highest and World’s Biggest railway bridge. It's located on the Mandalay-Lashio railway line, connecting Naungcho and Kyaukme in Shan State (North).

On the morning of August 24, TNLA terrorist insurgents planted a mine and blew up a section of the bridge. The blast damaged a 60-foot section of the iron truss between pier P-16 and abutment AB-2 on the Kyaukme side. The public has strongly condemned the act. Instead of protecting a 125-year-old landmark and a modern marvel, TNLA terrorists senselessly used a mine to destroy it, an act that has no military purpose.

Furthermore, several organizations have released statements strongly condemning the attack, including Young Men’s Buddhist Association (Central), Myanmar Interfaith Dialogue Group (Central), Myanmar Evangelical Christian Alliance, Union of Myanmar Methodist Church (Lower Myanmar), Faith Evangelical Church (Bago), Deliverance Church (Yangon), All Myanmar Hindu Central Council, All Myanmar Tamil Hindu Foundation (HQ), Thananta Dhamma Palaka (Hindu) Association, Islamic Religious Affairs Council Myanmar, Pinnaygon Yakhine Jaame Mosque, Buthidaung-Maungtaw Regional Development Association, Myanmar Artists Organization (Central), Myanmar Theatrical Association (Central), Myanmar Comedians’ Association, Myanmar Shia Muslim Religious Organization (Central), Myanmar Press Council, Myanmar Sports Media Federation, Myanmar Motion Pictures Organization, Myanmar Writers’ Association, Myanmar Music Association (Central).
