







A stake-driving ceremony for a two-storey reinforced concrete (RC) Simulator Assessment Centre was held at DawPon Shipyard in Yangon on Friday. Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, Deputy Minister for Transport and Communications U Aung Kyaw Tun, Indian Ambassador to Myanmar Mr. Abhay Thakur, senior officials and departmental representatives attended the event.
In his opening remarks, the Deputy Minister described the project as a key step in developing Myanmar’s maritime sector. He said the ceremony also marked the 78th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Myanmar and India, highlighting ongoing cooperation under their strategic partnership to strengthen infrastructure and human resource development.
The Deputy Minister expressed words of appreciation to the Government of India for its support and urged officials to ensure full responsibility and accountability to complete the project on schedule as a world-class centre. The Indian Ambassador then delivered remarks.
And, the Director General of the Department of Maritime Administration outlined the current status and implementation process of the Simulator-Based Training, Assessment and Examination System for Seafarers project.
The Chief Minister, the Deputy Minister and guests later drove stakes at the construction site and sprinkled scented water. Once completed, the Simulator Assessment Centre will help upgrade training quality and expand employment opportunities. The facility will replicate real workplace environments and conduct training, assessment and examinations in line with international standards.
