As Russia's war on Ukraine feels closer and closer, in the western city of Lviv, staff of one the main cultural attractions began preparations to protect their museum from possible attack.
On Wednesday the employees of the Museum of Ethnography, Arts and Crafts put metal panels on the tall windows to protect the collection from shockwaves from nearby explosions. The museum is hosted in the premises of a former bank, and is considered one of the main tourist attractions in the city.
Its collections include Ukrainian cultural artifacts, a clock exhibit, jewellery, rugs, and ethnographic artifacts from various European countries. “The metal plates are a "primitive" and basic measure that would not save the building from an airstrike or missile attack, but at least they could protect it from shockwaves”, Director of the Lviv Museum said.
