Electricity infrastructure is being upgraded in Mingalar Taung Nyunt Township as part of the government’s 100-day public service plan.
Due to rapid population growth and increasing housing, demand for electricity has risen significantly. In response, the Yangon Electricity Supply Corporation (YESC) is expanding power lines and installing new transformers.
Three new distribution transformers and associated power lines are being constructed across Mingalar Taung Nyunt Township. One of these transformers, located on 97th Street in Lutlat Yay Ward, has already been completed and is now operational.
Previously, electricity distribution in Yangon relied heavily on large-capacity transformers ranging from 500 kVA to 1000 kVA. These systems often caused widespread outages when faults occurred, affecting entire wards and prolonging restoration times.
To address this, YESC has adopted a “multi-transformer system,” which uses smaller 200 kVA transformers distributed across different streets.
Chit Saung, Electrical Engineer, Mingalataungnyunt Township Office said "With the older system, a single fault could cut power to a large area. Now, if one small transformer fails, only a limited section is affected. This significantly improves reliability and reduces voltage loss."
The new infrastructure is expected to provide residents with a more stable and continuous electricity supply. By reducing overloads and minimizing outages, households will experience fewer disruptions and better voltage consistency.
Mya Thein Tun, Administrator, Mingalataungnyunt Township said "Efforts are being made for sufficient power supply in the township. Under the 100-day plan, we have completed the upgrade works in Patheinnyunt and Lutlatyay Wards. Today is in Kan/South Ward. I hope it could help residents to enjoy sufficient power supply. Residents are already noticing the improvement and satisfying with it."
Officials are also urging the public to use electricity responsibly to reduce waste and ensure a stable supply for all.
