



A Myanmar delegation led by the Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, U Min Naung, participated in the ASEAN Special Meeting of Ministers of Agriculture and Forestry regarding the latest situation in the Middle East, which was held online on April 29, chaired by the Philippines as the rotating ASEAN Chair.
At the meeting, the Union Minister stated that Myanmar supports the following points to address and overcome the challenges to food security and energy security that may arise due to the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, close cooperation among ASEAN member states, strengthening the ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve (APTERR) system to further bolster regional food security, sharing information through information systems and promoting open trade under the ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA).
He emphasized that it is necessary for all member states to work hand-in-hand not only for the food security of their individual countries but also for the entire ASEAN community, and that ASEAN nations must cooperate and assist each other in the spirit of ASEAN.
During the meeting, participants discussed the report of the Special Senior Officials Meeting held on April 23, concerning the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, and adopted the joint press release of the ASEAN Special Meeting of Ministers of Agriculture and Forestry. The Chairperson from the Philippines delivered the closing remarks.
