Spanish PM visits military emergency HQ after deadly floods

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez visited the headquarters of the country's military emergency unit, which has been deployed in the Valencia region since the recent flooding began. The floods have caused the deaths of at least 211 people in Spain, with the vast majority in Valencia region.

The government had accepted the Valencia region leader's request for 5,000 more troops and informed him of a further deployment of 5,000 police officers and civil guards, Sanchez said. Spain was carrying out its largest deployment of army and security force personnel in peacetime, he added.
