China’s first interplanetary scintillation array (IPS array), a radio telescope used for monitoring space weather, passed technical tests on Friday. The homegrown telescope is a major part of the second phase of China’s Meridian Space Weather Monitoring Project, a ground-based comprehensive network to monitor the space environment.

Its construction is led by the National Space Science Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The IPS array consists of a main observation station and two auxiliary stations, all located in Xilingol League of north China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
