South Korea and Cuba establish relations

South Korea has established diplomatic relations with Cuba for the first time in 65 years. South Korea's foreign ministry said the two countries' representatives to the UN exchanged diplomatic notes in New York on Wednesday.

The two sides skipped intermediate steps such as building consular ties and went straight to an ambassador-level relationship, and agreed to take follow-up measures such as opening permanent missions.
