Solomon Islands Governor-General declares Manele new PM

Jeremiah Manele was elected as the new prime minister of Solomon Islands on Thursday, the Governor General of Solomon Islands announced.

Solomon Islands' 50 newly elected members of parliament chose Manele as prime minister with 31 votes in favor in a secret ballot, beating opposition leader Matthew Wale, who was also vying for the position.
