Snow Volleyball Unites Generations in Yenice Village

A 32-year-old snow volleyball tradition continues to bring together generations in Yenice, a high-altitude village in Turkey’s Gümüşhane province.

Situated 2,100 meters above sea level, Yenice has hosted these unique winter sports events for over three decades. What started as a local pastime has evolved into a well-organized sporting event, with support from the Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports.

Snow volleyball matches, officiated by professional referees, attract large crowds and feature local officials as participants. The event has grown into a symbol of community spirit, fostering intergenerational connections. As part of the tradition, the losing team treats the winners to tea and soup after the match, further strengthening the sense of camaraderie.
