Road and infrastructure works are underway at the Myitkyina Entry Cargo Inspection Checkpoint in Waingmaw Township to make the movement of goods faster and easier. The checkpoint, located in Mai Nar Village, was opened on August 29, 2026, for the inspection of imports and exports entering through Kanpiketi.
It aims to facilitate border trade and bring illegal trade into official channels. Kachin State Chief Minister U Khet Htin Nan on Saturday inspected the checkpoint, reviewing the construction of gates, rest facilities for truck drivers and assistants, as well as water and sanitation facilities.
He instructed for widening roads around the checkpoint, laying gravel, and constructing small bridges to improve access for large cargo trucks. The major Myanmar-China border trade routes through Kanpiketi-Myitkyina-Mandalay and Lweje-Bhamo-Mandalay were temporarily closed in 2024 due to security conditions.
A temporary checkpoint was later opened at Shwe Moe Taung Pagoda in March 2026. The current checkpoint is now operating on more than five acres of land in Mai Nar Village.
