Significant Day of Kayin People: Kayin New Year day celebration held in Myeik

Taninthayi Region Chief Minister U Myat Ko together with officials attended 27,62 Kayin Era New Year celebration at the Myoma sports ground in Myeik on Thursday.

At the ceremony, the Region Chief Minister said that the Kayin New Year day is a historic day that built the unity and solidarity of the entire Kayin people and it is also proud of the only significant day handed down from their ancestors.

He added that holding festivities in line with tradition, paying respects to senior citizens, serving with food, making donation and best wishes to all in regardless of religions on the New Year Day reflects the lovely custom and tradition of Kayin ethnic people.

The new year festival of Kayin ethnic people can be held in a grand manner year after year as the government is emphasizing on peace and development as well as providing assistance on promoting tradition, custom, literature and arts of ethnic nationals.

The successful holding of the new year festival reveals the national solidarity of all Kayin people and it’s the successful results of the unity. Taninthayi Ethnic Affairs Minister then read out the Kayin New Year Day message sent by the Union Minister for Ethnic Affairs and two Kayin damsels read out the emergence of Kayin New Year day in Myanmar and Sakaw Kayin languages.

At the event, Kayin males and females entertained with traditional dances and attendees sung Kayin national song together.
