A protest by Venezuelan teachers in Caracas grew violent on Monday when shots rang out and counter-protesters, police and national guard troops attempted to impede the protesters. Venezuelan teachers were assembled in front of the country's education ministry to demand higher wages, according to local media.
A group of counter protesters also confronted the teachers with skirmishes breaking out while the two groups threw punches. Venezuela's five-year economic crisis has left millions of people with shortages of gas, petrol, food and medicine. President Nicolas Maduro's government has used security forces to crack down on protesters.
