The 2023 Lantern Festival in Yu Garden officially opened on Monday night. Inspired by the “The Classic of Mountains and Seas”, this year's Lantern Festival combines mythical images with intangible cultural heritage lighting sets.
2023 is the year of the rabbit, so the rabbit is the protagonist of the central square. And in the Golden Square, five auspicious animals including rabbit, magpie, dog, tortoise, and bat, seem to be coming alive. When night falls, Yu Garden is transformed into a bright sea of lights.
The central square will hold a lighting ceremony every night, recreating the traditional grand occasion of lighting of the lanterns at the Lantern Festival in ancient times. It is understood that the Lantern Festival in Yu Garden will end on February 15, 2023, lasting for 52 days.
