The Tatmadaw announced that it had fully regained control and reopened on May 6 the Mandalay–Myitkyina transportation route, which connects Mandalay Region with Sagaing Region and Kachin State through Mandalay, Madaya, Thabeikkyin, Tagaung, Htigyaing, Katha, Indaw, Mawlu, Nantseeaung, Mohnyin, Mogaung, and Myitkyina. The route had previously been temporarily controlled by terrorist insurgents.
To help restore the administrative functions of the state in those areas, improve the livelihoods of local ethnic communities, and support regional development, the government and the Tatmadaw jointly arranged for the transportation of essential supplies from Mandalay to Myitkyina for a second time. These supplies included basic foodstuffs, consumer goods, construction materials, medicines and medical supplies, school stationery, and fuel. The convoy successfully arrived in Myitkyina on May 31.
The vehicles that had arrived in Myitkyina then departed again on June 3, carrying government employees who were being reassigned, along with their family members, as well as civil servants traveling to attend training courses. The convoy returned to Mandalay on the morning of June 4.
Due to the coordinated efforts of the government and the Tatmadaw in reopening the Mandalay–Myitkyina route, delivering essential development materials on time, and repairing roads and bridges damaged by terrorists, passenger vehicles and cargo trucks are now able to travel normally along the route again. Local residents are also reportedly able to carry out their daily travel and trade activities smoothly, while security forces continue cooperating with government staff and local residents in reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts in the Region, it’s reported.
