Rescuers continued to search for the victims of a deadly bridge collapse in the western Indian state of Gujarat early on Monday.
They scoured the dark waters for survivors, but were seen recovering a number of bodies instead. At least 132 people died and many were injured when the cable suspension bridge over the Machchu river collapsed on Sunday evening.
Hundreds of people on the structure at the time fell into the river in Morbi district, and it was feared the death toll would rise further.
Authorities said the 19th-century, colonial-era bridge collapsed because it could not handle the weight of the large crowd.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is in his home state of Gujarat on a three-day visit, said he was “deeply saddened" by the tragedy. Meanwhile, the state government said it had formed a special team to investigate the disaster.
