Saudi Arabia has officially launched the first operational phase of the Riyadh Metro on Sunday, opening three of its six planned lines to the public.

This marks a pivotal step in the kingdom's strategy to reduce car dependency and enhance public transportation.

The metro system spans 176 km with 85 stations, designed to serve as the backbone of Riyadh’s urban mobility. Inaugurated by King Salman, the Riyadh Metro is set to become the world’s largest single-phase metro system and the longest driverless metro network globally. This ambitious project aims to meet Riyadh’s evolving social, environmental, and transportation needs.
