Sao Paulo metro collapses, damaging road

A section of Sao Paulo's heavily used commuter rail collapsed Tuesday morning, damaging an adjacent highway and snarling traffic and disrupting thousands of passengers trying to get into work.

Officials say it could take weeks to repair the damage and restore service to the widely used commuter corridor. The construction collapse came in the midst of flooding and mudslides that have impacted communities throughout the State of Sao Paulo after weeks of heavy rains, killing at least 24 people as hillsides collapsed into homes in low-lying neighborhoods.
