




The South African Health Minister on Friday said the nation saw a reduction in new COVID-19 cases in the first week of 2022. Speaking virtually with a panel of health experts, he said there had been almost a 14% reduction in new cases compared to the week before.
According to the National Institute for Communicable Diseases, South Africa on Thursday reported over 5,900 new cases of COVID-19, taking the total reported to more than 3.5 million.
Deaths have reached over 92,000, while recoveries have climbed to over 3.3 million leaving the country with a balance of over 106,000 active cases. The total number of vaccines administered is more than 28.7 million.
