

Russian President Vladimir Putin welcomed the heads of BRICS member states at the Summit in Kazan. In the opening speech, Putin said that in a narrow-format meeting, participants were going to discuss “the most relevant aspects of the global agenda”, including “resolving acute regional conflicts.
Putin also referred to the creation of a BRICS investment platform, which will facilitate mutual investment between BRICS countries and could also be used for investment in other countries in the Global South.
Around 20 leaders, including from China, India, Turkey and Iran, are gathering in the central city of Kazan, where they will address topics such as developing a Brics-led international payment system and the conflict in the Middle East.
