Russia delivers much needed wheat to Cuba

Cuba received thousands of tons of wheat sent as a donation by Russia on Thursday. The ship transporting the cargo spent several weeks at sea without being able to dock on the island because of sanctions imposed on Russia by the West.

Moscow's aid comes at a time of economic crisis for the Caribbean nation. Global restrictions on transport and trade with Russia pose an especially serious problem for Cubans, whose socialist government has lived since the early 1960s under an embargo imposed by the nearby United States.
