




Under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, round table talk on sugar cane with the title of “the development of Sugar Cane Sector” by reviewing the situations of farmers who grow sugar canes and businessmen of sugar mills are dealing. The round table talk on sugar cane was held on 7th September at the hall of Union Ministers’ Office with the aim for benefits and to increase the implementation of work processes for farmers.
Dr. Aung Gyi, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation said "The round table talk is held every Wednesday of a month and it has been 13th time. It includes the discussion for the development of agriculture and livestock sectors. More and more farmers and speakers come to participate in the talk. By holding round table talks like this, the government can support farmers’ needs. "
At the round table talk, development of sugarcane sector, producing sugarcane based products and manufacturing consumers goods were discussed.
Ohmar Soe, Assistant Director, Department of Agriculture said "Our department is making research works to solve the sugarcane cultivation problems and shared the agricultural methods to the farmers such as producing with low costs. Our department formulated and registered 13 new varieties of sugarcane. This new varieties are being planted in all regions and states."
Previously, the sugarcane price in the market is very low. Starting from 2011-2012, sugarcane plantations are increasing and have reached to almost 500,000 acres in the country.
