Role of Traditional Medicine: MoH Union Minister meets concerned officials

Union Minister for Health Dr Thet Khaing Win met officials of Patron Body of Myanmar Traditional Medicine Council, the Advisory Board of Traditional Medical Expertise and the Department Traditional Medicine and the University of Traditional Medicine in Nay Pyi Taw on Monday.

During the meeting, the Union Minister said that the role of the Traditional Medicine Council is important for the development of traditional medicine.

The council's responsibilities are to issue medical licenses and to take action against violators. In the role of international cooperation, the Department of Traditional Medicine and the University of Traditional Medicine will have to work for mutual benefit through cooperation with India and China.

He stressed the needs to preserve valuable traditional medicinal species, to resume  traditional medicine conferences and research paper reading sessions and to extend district level offices, appointment of traditional medicine graduates and extension of traditional medicine clinics as most of the rural people rely on Myanmar traditional medicines.

Officials explained about their responsibilities, plan to research for development of traditional medicine sector, future work programs, situation of students attending the courses offered at the University of Traditional Medicine and plan on conducting postgraduate courses. In response to the reports, the Union Minister fulfilled the needs.
