Police and protesters on Tuesday exchanged rocks and tear gas in the streets of Bogota, as demonstrators took to the capital to protest against the social and economic policies of President Ivan Duque. Marchers in the Andean country have held regular mass demonstrations for months to demand a varied laundry list of concessions from Duque's right-wing government.
These included stepped-up efforts to stop the murder of human rights activists and implement a peace deal with leftist rebels and the dissolution of the riot police force. Five people have died in connection with the Colombia demonstrations, which followed upheaval in other Latin American countries such as Ecuador, Chile and Bolivia.
