



The Ministry of Commerce of Myanmar and Bangladesh have signed G to G agreement to export 200,000 tons of rice. According to agreement, it is targeted to export 30,000 tons to 50,000 tons of rice from Myanmar to Bangladesh through Pathein Industrial City Port in Ayeyawady region.
Starting from 28th October, it has been undertaken to export 2,650 tons of rice to Bangladesh for the first time via Ayeyawady Industrial City Port by cargo ship.
Soe Aung, Director, Dept. of Consumer Affairs (Ayeyawady Region), said " We export quality Emata rice to Bangladesh. There is over 2 million tons of rice exportannually. Ayeyawady Region is the highestquality rice exporter to the international markets as the region is more sufficient of rice and food than other regions and states. If we can export more rice from Pathein Industrial City Port, the region will develop."
The Director of Ayeyawady Industrial City Port (AIIP) said exporting rice can get more foreign income and improve business opportunities for local farmers and investors.
Si Thu Soe, Director, Ayeyawady Industrial City Port, said " Out of 200,000 tons of rice that are purchased by Bangladesh through G to G, 30,000-ton to 50,000-ton of rice will be exported through this Industrial City Port. The quality Eamahta rice will be exported via sea route. Though this program, local farmers can get more benefits and it will also support growers, producers and merchants as well as the supply chain process."
Exporting Myanmar rice to neighboring countries can create more job opportunities for rice-related businesses and it also supports boosting rice export and sustainable market for the region.
