Retreat Meeting: Myanmar and Thailand FMs held a retreat meeting

At the invitation of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, a Myanmar delegation led by U Than Swe, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs, currently on an official visit to Phuket, Thailand, held a retreat meeting with the Thai delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs on 18 February.

During the meeting, both sides cordially exchanged views on further strengthening the existing ties of friendship and cooperation between Myanmar and Thailand. The two Ministers discussed ways to enhance multi-sectoral cooperation, including trade, investment, education, and public health.

They also deliberated on promoting people-to-people connectivity, including matters related to Myanmar migrant workers in Thailand. Furthermore, both sides discussed intensifying collaboration between the two countries, particularly in jointly combating of transnational crimes to enhance border security and stability, including illegal cross-border trade, online scams, human trafficking, and drug trafficking as well as strengthening cooperation in regional and international fora. Following the meeting, the Union Minister and delegation attended a working dinner hosted by the Thai Minister of Foreign Affairs.
