







Myanma Railways under the Ministry of Transport has upgraded the Myitkyina-Mogaung-Mohnyin railway section and resumed passenger train services to improve transportation for local people.
Following the reopening of the Myitkyina–Mogaung section in November 2023 and the resumption of Mogaung (1) and Mogaung (2) train services, the Mogaung–Mohnyin railway section was renovated under the government’s 100-day activities for the benefits of the people. The No. (49) Up Mohnyin- Myitkyina and No. (50) Down Myitkyina–Mohnyin trains officially began operations on Monday.
The opening ceremony of the extended passenger train route was held at Myitkyina Railway Station. Kachin State Chief Minister U Khet Htein Nan attended the ceremony, together with State Hluttaw Speaker, State Chief Justice of the State High Court, Commander of Northern Command, Deputy Minister and officials.
The Chief Minister said the resumed train services would ease transportation difficulties along the Myitkyina–Mogaung–Mohnyin route, support passenger travel and facilitate goods transportation. He urged passengers and local communities to help maintain railway facilities and coaches for long-term service.
Deputy Minister U Aung Myaing explained the operation plans for the new train services.
The Chief Minister formally opened the service and performed a ceremonial water-sprinkling on the departing locomotive, together with the concerned officials.
The Chief Minister and officials greeted passengers, presented commemorative gifts and joined the inaugural journey.
The No. (49) Mohnyin–Myitkyina Up train departs Mohnyin Station at 6:00 a.m. and arrives at Myitkyina Station at 1:15 p.m., while the No. (50) Myitkyina–Mohnyin Down train departs Myitkyina Station at 6:00 a.m. and arrives at Mohnyin Station at 1:00 p.m. Fares are 25,000 kyats for upper class and 15,000 kyats for ordinary class. Upper-class tickets can be purchased three days in advance and ordinary-class tickets one day in advance at respective stations, it’s learnt.
