The neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of Central Women’s Hospital Mandalay was reopened last week and has given treatments to patients.

The 500-bedded Central Women’s Hospital launched on 23 April 2006 and the NICU of the hospital was operated in December 2018. The activities of the NICU were explained by the Medical Superintendent of the hospital.

Dr. Win Pa Pa Htun, Medical Superintendent, Central Women’s Hospital (Mandalay) said "We gave births to over 2000 babies this year and we always conduct baby checks. Among them, we give treatment to the child who needs intensive care at the newborn chamber. If the babies need to phototherapy, we arrange for them and if they need treatments, we give medical care to them. At the ICU, we can give more intensive care."

The Medical Superintendent said that they give treatments at the intensive care units to premature babies, the babies who are low birth weight and their lungs are not fully developed and the infants who are drowned in water break before labor begins and difficult birth and who have weakness and who are severe symptoms and emergency life-saving all day rounds.

Pediatrician, Central Women’s Hospital (Mandalay) said "Now, we have the increase numbers of birth patients and the infants who need intensive care. At NICU, there are an ICU room and a HTR room. The babies can receive treatments in the special care unit. There are 20 admissions of infants and 11 newborn babies who need special care and the rest only need regular injections."

Mother-infant, Mandalay said "My baby weighs just around 4 pounds at birth. I am here for 21 days and my baby was born early. Now, I’m not worried about my baby’s health. I’m very glad because doctors allowed us to be discharged from the hospital. All doctors here take care very much."

The Central Women’s Hospital has resumed its operation on March 2021 and given treatments to over 12000 out-patients and about 4000 in-patients and performed over 1500 surgery operations till September 2022.
