At least 10 civilians were killed and many others injured in an airstrike on a market in a rebel-held town in Syria's northwestern province of Idlib on Monday, according to opposition activists. Footage showed volunteers of the Syrian Civil Defence, better known as the White Helmets, removing bodies and injured from the rubble in Maaret al-Numan.

The group said nine civilians, including two women, were killed while 13 others, including two children, were wounded. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based war monitor, said the morning airstrike had killed 10 and wounded others. The airstrike came amid an increase of violence in Idlib province, the country's last opposition stronghold where fighting between troops and insurgents killed dozens of gunmen on both sides over the weekend.
