Rescuers evacuate 2,400 trapped in flood-hit Beihai

More than 2,400 villagers trapped in floods in Beihai City of Guangxi in south China have all been relocated to safety by local firefighters. In emergency response to floods that were triggered by heavy rains and had affected 28 villages, in some of which doors had almost been fully inundated.

The Beihai firefighting and rescuing detachment dispatched 33 fire trucks, 21 boats and 189 firefighters to the worst-hit villages to search and evacuate the stranded villagers. Rain is forecast to continue in southern China over the coming days while the northeast is also expected to be hit by sudden thunderstorms.
