The event was attended by Chairman of the Union Election Commission, U Than Soe, who delivered opening remarks. In his address, the Chairman of the Union Election Commission first conveyed the appreciation and gratitude of the Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, for the observers’ visits and monitoring activities.
He emphasized that elections are conducted in order to convene and form the respective Hluttaws and through the Hluttaws to elect the President and Vice Presidents, establish administrative bodies, and assign governmental responsibilities to Union-level organizations mandated by the President.
Therefore, it is of great importance that elections are successfully held and conducted in accordance with the law. He noted that the 2025 multiparty democratic general election represents an important milestone for the country, and that the role played by the observers as monitors of the electoral process—ensuring its accuracy, integrity, and credibility, is extremely significant.
