Religious Ceremony: Construction of Yadana Throne for Maravijaya Buddha Image

A ceremony for construction of the part-1 of Yadana Throne for Maravijaya Buddha Image took place at the pavilion of Buddha Park in Dekkhinathiri Township of Nay Pyi Taw on Saturday.

Members of the Sangha, Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Vice-Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win and other officials attended the ceremony.

The Senior General supplicated the construction for the image and sought the advice from members of the Sangha. He also inspected progress in construction of the Buddha image and gave necessary instructions. At the briefing hall, Lt-Gen Kan Myint Than and Lt-Gen Kyaw Swa Lin from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) reported on the ceremony to build part-1 of Yadana Throne for Maravijaya Buddha Image General, excavation of the marble rock to be carved into Maravijaya Buddha Image, conveyance of the rocks to Nay Pyi Taw, carving of the throne and body structures and linkages, and plan to carve Tri Pitakat treatises in Pali and English.

The Senior General gave necessary instructions.

The title “Maravijara Buddha Image” means the Lord Buddha Who conquered the various kinds of destruction by celestial bring Marn. The Buddha image is being built with the aim of showing the flourishing of the Theravada Buddhism in Myanmar to the world, ensuring the peace and tranquility of the country, contributing to development of the region through the visits of local and foreign travellers and improving the State development.

The Buddha image is being carved in Bhumi Phassa mudra with 32 great characteristics and 80 small characteristics of the Lord Buddha. The throne will be 18 feet high and the image will be 63 feet high. Upon completion, it will be the world’s largest marble Buddha image not only in Myanmar but in the world.

The throne will be carved with five parts of marble rocks. Part-1 of the throne will be 655 tonnes of weight. The main body structure of the image will be carved in four parts. At present, the construction and carving of the Buddha image are in progress.
