Relief and Rehabilitation: Rehabilitation works in Sittwe Township inspected

Member of the State Administration Council, Deputy Prime Minister, Union Minister for Transport and Communications Admiral Tin Aung San, Union Minister for Border Affairs Lt. General TunTunNaung and party inspected the rehabilitation works at cyclone-affected areas in Sittwe township of Rakhine State on Saturday.

They inspected cleaning works at the guest house of State Government and gave necessary instructions. They later visited Lawkananda Pagoda, Sakkya Muni Thein Taw  Pagoda and SasanaBeikman and met with members of the Pagoda Board of Trustees.

After inspecting the damages, they discussed for renovation works. They also inspected cleaning tasks in the precinct of the pagoda and gave instructions to distribute food and relief aids as soon as possible to the people in cyclone-affected villages and townships.

The Deputy Prime Minister and party later inspected the unloading process of relief aids from the Navy craft (Mottama) and coordinated to reinforce the tasks in order to accelerate the process. On the same day, the Deputy Prime Minister and party made inspection tour to the Sittwe 500-Bedded People’s Hospital and met with the officials.

They heard reports on repairing of the hospital and future plans. Then, they visited to the warehouse in the compound of Myanmar Port Authority and viewed the storage and distribution of rice, edible oil and foodstuffs, and tarpaulin sheets.

On arrival the Basic Education High School No.1, they inspected the damages of school and met with Township Education Officer. He gave the instructions on cleaning of schools, speedy implementation of the tasks to be readied for the school opening season, accepting the school enrollments according to the designated dates and academic matters. 

In the afternoon, the Deputy Prime Minister and party inspected Life Straw Water Purifiers that can use without electricity. These items were provided by the Rural Development under the Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development for the cyclone affected victims to get clean drinking water. 50 sets of water purifiers will be distributed to the cyclone areas, and more 160 sets will arrive soon.

In the evening, the Deputy Prime Minister attended a work coordination meeting for rehabilitation measures, held at the State Government Office. Officials from 12 Work Committees reported on the work undertakings and future plans. The Deputy Prime Minister discussed the arrangements for effective implementation of the rehabilitation works and systematic distribution of relief items to the affected areas.

He urged all to carry out the rehabilitation works in priorities, and to provide health awareness for prevention of infectious diseases. He called for cooperation and coordination among the departmental personnel with the participation of people.
