Regional Stability: Tatmadaw retakes Tagaung Town

Tatmadaw have recaptured and regained control of Tagaung town in Mandalay Region from PDF terrorists linked to the NUG. Tatmadaw columns carried out counter-terrorism operations in the area and gradually cleared nearby villages between February 6 and March 10, 2026.

The Tatmadaw fully took control of Tagaung town on March 12 after a series of clashes. During the operation, more than 85 engagements and some security personnel were killed or injured, along with the seizure of around 40 weapons, ammunition, explosives, and equipment.

Currently, landmine clearance operations are ongoing in the town and surrounding areas to ensure safety for civilians. Reconstruction and rehabilitation work, including clearing debris and mines, are underway, so that displaced residents can return to their homes.
