Regional Meetings: Myanmar Joins ASEAN Digital and Trade Meetings

Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations Dr. Wah Wah Maung participated in the Special Meeting of ASEAN Economic Ministers on the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA) on Thursday.

The meeting discussed accelerating negotiations to finalize the agreement by 2026. The DEFA aims to harmonize digital trade rules across the region, support SMEs, create jobs, and improve digital inclusion.

The Union Minister later joined the Special Meeting on the Review of the ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement (AITIGA). Discussions focused on completing the review process by 2025 and providing clear guidance for joint and sub-committees. Union minister Dr. Wah Wah Maung expressed Myanmar’s support for equal tariff reduction and requested flexibility for less developed countries through phased implementation.
