


Acting President and Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission Senior General Min Aung Hlaing received Malaysian Foreign Minister Dato’Seri Utama Haji Mohamad Bin Haji Hasan in Nay Pyi Taw on Thursday.
During the meeting, the visiting Minister praised the preparations for the upcoming multi-party democratic general election, and pledged that ASEAN will make cooperation to support the Myanmar's efforts. He also suggested to ensure the election with all-inclusiveness, adding that the Election Observer Groups will be sent.
The Acting President stated that the plan for election had been announced since 2024 so as to provide enough time for the political parties and those with different political view to make preparations. The political party registration process has also been carried out in line with the law.
Over 5,000 candidates from 57 political parties will compete in the election. He reiterated that invitation has been extended to the Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs) to participate in the political process, ensuring lasting peace. Ceasefire announcements have been made for 27 times since 2018.
For those committing terrorist acts due to political differences were also invited for three times to involve in the political process. He added that the anniversary celebration for the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) is scheduled to be held on October 15, with the attendance of the NCA Signatory and Non-Signatory EAOs as well as the international witnesses.
The two sides later discussed the political development in Myanmar, voting system with the use of Myanmar Electronic Voting Machine to ensure free and fair election, organizing the election in phases, extending invitations to the election observers from the neighbouring countries and international community, and post-election process. They also exchanged views on cooperation with ASEAN, provision of humanitarian assistance and enhancing collaboration with international community.
