






222 natural disasters happened in Kachin State during 2020-2021 to 2022-2023 and assistance were provided to over 13,900 affected households, it was said by Kachin State Chief Minister U Khet Htein Nan at the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction Ceremony in Myitkyina on Thursday.
At the ceremony, the Chief Minister called for participation of departments, UN, INGOs and social organizations in the disaster risk reduction and the entire people. He said that the loss of damages and properties can be reduced by participating in the preparedness measures according to this year’s theme.
In the event, a video message of the Head of UNDRR Ms. Mami Mizutori and a video clip of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement were shown. Later, the Chief Minister and officials, NGOs and INGOs viewed around the display of booths on relief and rescue items, educative books and phamplets.
In Kachin State faced natural disasters for 174 times in 2020-2021 to 2021-2022 (mini) budget and 48 times during 6-month for 2022-2023 financial year. A total of 37 natural disaster management trainings, drills and educative talks were conducted in 2022-2023 fiscal year, according to the State Disaster Management Department.
