PWD Registration Process: Initial project will begin in 4 Regions and States

The registration process for the People with Disabilities (PWDs) will be initiated in 4 States and Regions as an initial project during 2022-2023 fiscal years.

The Ministry of Social Welfare Relief and Resettlement is implementing the process with the aims to promote rehabilitation and development PWDs through the disability level classification.

According to the Department of Rehabilitation, the registration supervisors will begin giving trainings in Pobbathiri Township of Nay Pyi Taw Council Area starting from May 9th.

Director General, Department of Rehabilitation, Aung Kyaw Moe said "Our purpose is that when the persons with disability receive their PWD registration numbers, they will be able to participate in politics, education, social, health, economy, culture, and social affairs like other people in the society. The Government will support their needs too.The social protection procedures also include helping persons with disability, we are conducting with expectation for the welfare of persons with disability in all aspects."

It is learnt that the disability types annotated in 2014 census and interim census will be used upon conducting PWD registration process, and classifying disability level will be conducted through questioning by age groups.

The process will be conducted in accordance with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Law 2015 and its Bylaw 2017.

Director General, Department of Rehabilitation, Aung Kyaw Moe said "Since it is the first time doing these processes in our country, it will be greatly beneficial for the persons with disability. We will classify the disability level and issue the PWD registration numbers to the disabled persons. Then, it will be much easier for the disabled persons to get the necessary help, support, and job opportunities, as well as education and health."

Depending on the result of the initial project, the process will continue in other townships in the remaining States and Regions.
