The Ministry of Health issued public health advisory on the prevention of respiratory infectious diseases including seasonal influenza and COVID-19.

During the rainy season, respiratory infectious diseases such as seasonal influenza and COVID-19 are more likely to spread. Although COVID-19 is no longer classified as a global pandemic, it is now recognized as a locally circulating disease similar to seasonal influenza.

At present, there is no cause for public concern regarding outbreaks or deaths due to these diseases in Myanmar. However, to prevent potential spread, the public is strongly urged to observe the necessary preventive measures. For those who are experiencing symptoms of respiratory illness such as fever, runny nose, sneezing, cough, or sore throat, it is advised to avoid crowded places whenever possible, to wear face mask properly to reduce the risk of spreading illness, and to cover mouth and nose with a tissue or elbow when sneezing or coughing when not wearing a mask.

If symptoms become severe, it is needed to promptly seek medical attention at the nearest hospital or health center. In addition to these measures, everyone is encouraged to practice good personal hygiene. That includes frequent and thorough handwashing with soap and water, or using alcohol-based hand sanitizer regularly.

The Ministry added that COVID-19 vaccines are effective in reducing the risk of infection, severe illness, and death caused by emerging variants of the virus. Therefore, high-risk groups are especially encouraged to receive booster doses. These groups include older adults, people with chronic illnesses such as diabetes, chronic respiratory diseases, or cancer and pregnant women.
