World Water Day, observed annually on March 22nd, recognizes the significance of freshwater. In Viet Nam, clean water meeting national quality standards is supplied to 90% of urban and rural areas. However, due to distribution challenges, nearly half of the population in mountainous provinces still have limited access to clean water.

According to the Vice Chair of People’s Committee of Van Chan District, Yen Bai Province, at present, nearly 45% of all centralized water supply projects nationwide are reported to be functioning poorly or are suspended. In mountainous regions, most of these are small-scale and pending projects. Only 42% of the population in these areas has access to clean water that meets the Ministry of Health standards.
